VRBO.com is a perennial work horse and another of the original "big four" - they have a reputation for performance, though not in all regions. Frankly, I believe they are in major need of a look and feel overhaul. I find their listing interface cumbersome as a traveler. They also charge every time you change a photo as they do some custom editing and monitor their site to ensure quality. That said, they are too important to ignore as an owner and produce bookings in both Maine and the Palm Springs area. VRBO is also now owned by the same group, WVR of the HomeAway umbrella.Vacation Rentals
Vacationrentals.com is now an old stalwart and owned by homeaway.com, but still one of my personal favorites.- HomeAway HomeAway is the result of an acquisition of cyberrentals, greatrentals, a1vacations, and two international entities. Recently they acquired vrbo as well. They are working hard to make a user interface that works and makes vacation rentals accessible and easier for everyone.
Great Rentals
Great Rentals is a new addition for my listings this year. They too are one of the original "big 4" listing sites and were consolidated into WVR in 2005. It is still too soon to judge overall performance. Customer service is responsive.OV Rentals
OVrentals.com is very inexpensive and performs quite well in Maine. I've found this site helpful in booking shoulder season weeks. Many inquiries for my Oceanside beach rental.VR Connection
Drew, the owner of VRConnection.com goes out of his way to provide exceptional customer service for vacation rental owners. His software and tracking systems are revolutionary and I owe him my support and listing for that alone. This site has valuable management and tracking features, as well as my absolute favorite: migration of your listing information from another site to this vrconnection listing! Time is money, and it's done for free (valuevacationrentals makes you pay $30 for this service and most don't even offer it). You don't pay until this site actually performs for you. Great Family Rentals
Greatfamilyrentals.com is my favorite concept site, and they have fantastic customer service. I just don't get the traffic from them that I would like.- Perfect Places Good site in general - used to count on them for a few bookings a year, but inquiries in 2007 are way down. Offer a free trial for new clients, but nothing for a loyal one who only had 7 inquiries in nearly 6 months, and only 2 of them valid! Letting my listings expire unless something changes.
Vacation Rentals 411
This site has a unique structure with a free to list component and a bid for positioning pay per click system. Consistently performs well in search engines. Get lots of inquiries, but no bookings.Find Rentals shows up high in search engine results, but their pricing to owners is all over the map, negotiable, and very aggressive sales tactics. Never the less, when all is said and done, one can advertise 3 properties for $300, and generate a few bookings. Not sure if I'll renew this just on principle and reputation alone.
Value Vacation Rentals - Reasonable quantity of inquiries, but limited if any bookings.
Vacation Homes - another surprise and doing very well in the search engine rankings. I've had inquiries and bookings when everything else is slow.
Any Season Rentals out of Arizona. Have had a listing here for a year, but no inquiries. I wouldn't recommend this site.

Detailed listings of the most beautiful beach house vacation rentals in the world. Just listed my Oceanside property here in January 2007. We'll see how this specialized site performs. 3 levels of listings from $120-$240/year. VillaGlobal - Perfect place to advertise your villa. Your vacation rental search ends here. I've not listed here yet. Seems to be a decent global site.

- Vacation Rentals - Vacation Rentals for your needs at Rentalo.com. Discover great deals and savings on Vacation Rentalsand other accommodations. Inquire and receive free offers on Vacation Rentals. I don't use Rentalo myself - they have a reputation for lots of bogus inquiries, however I do know a few people who are happy with them.

Tenant.com - the owner here is very responsive, and is diligent in getting free press and traffic to this site. This site is unique in that it submits your listing to both www.craigslist.org and Google Base - both are tedious and useful.
Quality Vacation Rentals - my web site stats show that these are good referrer to my site, but no bookings yet. I figure traffic is always a good thing.
Craigs List
This is one of the most interesting concepts in free vacation rental listings that I have ever seen. Craig's list allows free advertisement of almost anything, on a regional basis. These listings are resubmitted periodically and removed regularly to keep the "list" current. A great forum to run specials and last minute bookings.Google Base

Regional Vacation Rental Listings
Regiional listing services are very powerful advertising avenues. Think about it: you have people who have already decided they like where your place is located, now they are just looking for the right one. Some are more expensive than others, but thus far, all have been worthwhile listings. My favorite is www.visitmaine.com - I can't believe it is free! No wonder Maine is called "Vacationland."

Annual membership required. Local Chambers of Commerce are still the first place many guests go to gain information about an area they wish to visit. Some, like this one, even understand the need for vacation rental listings.
