Mussel Cove™ Maine Vacation Rental Frequently Asked Questions
Question: Do you have a TV? Answer: No we don't. More often than not, our guests end up thanking us for this "feature." Reception is poor, satellite is the only option, and we found over the years its absence is not a major factor. You are welcome to bring your own TV/VCR/DVD player if you choose. We do supply lots of board games, puzzles, and books for both children and adults.Question: Do you supply sheets & towels? Answer: YES. We just started offering these in 2005 as a convenience to our guests - bring your own beach towels, however. We did this in response to many guests who would rather not bring their own linens.Question: Can you swim in your cove? Answer: Yes, you can, but the truth is not many over the age of 18 do because of the water temperature. There is "warmer" swimming available at Charles' pond nearby and plenty of fun to have on the shore anyway.Question: Where can I get lobsters? Answer: From our next door neighbor, our caretaker, or at the wharf. Very easy to come by, and caught right out your back door. We supply everything you need during your holiday to prepare and enjoy this Maine specialty.Question: How far is this cottage from Reid State Park? Answer: About 10 minutes by car and we include the park pass with your vacation rental. Question: Do you accept a well behaved dog (cat, rabbit, etc) at your vacation rental? Answer: No we don't. Question: What time are check in and check out? and do you allow early arrivals/late check outs? Answer: Check in is 3pm or later. Check out is 10am sharp. We cannot accommodate early check in or late check out because we need time to make the cottage clean and fresh for your arrival and for the next guest's arrival. Question: Upon what body of water is your coast cottage located? Answer: This vacation rental cottage is on the Little Sheepscot River, which is a spit of water that is separated from the deep and clean Sheepscot River by MacMahan Island (a summer community). The water is salt water, and the tide is a 9 foot tide. Although we call our "camp" (as Mainers call it) Mussel Cove, the cove is labeled as White's Cove on the official nautical charts. Our dock and float are considered ideal for boating, as we are well protected, and have about 6 feet of water, even at low tide. Question: Is there heat in the your Georgetown cottage? Answer: No there isn't central heat. We have a wood burning stove, and two vortex space heaters. We supply warm comforters, throws, and ample blankets for those chilly nights in the early and late season. We supply wood for the stove. Question: Can I bring my boat? How do I launch it? Answer: YES! We have a dock, ramp, and float. We also have 3 moorings worthy of even the heaviest boats, and deepest draft sloops. If you are coming by land, your boat can be launched at high tide at the town ramp in Robinhood Cove. The pass is supplied with your vacation rental. Bring a driver for your vehicle as the ramp is for launching/pulling of boats only. Question: What if I have to cancel my vacation? Answer: We suggest you purchase trip insurance if you have any uncertainty about your holiday in Maine. If you have to cancel, there is a 25% cancellation fee. If you cancel within 60 days of your arrival, your entire rent & tax is forfeited. We will make every attempt to re-rent your time, and if we are able to do so, we will only keep the 25% cancellation fee, and any differential in rents collected. Question: You are booked for the time I want to stay. Can you help me find another place? Answer: Sure. I would be happy to pass your information along to other owners of vacation rentals in Georgetown. Please email me the dates, number in your group, name and phone or email using my contact form link.
